Kovrovsky History and Memorial Museum
O.A. Monyakova (after the publication in the "Museum" magazine, №11/2008)
Museums in small towns of Russia are a seemingly small part of a big multifaceted museum world. What place does the Kovrov museum, which celebrated its 80th anniversary in 2007, occupy in this world? Its rich history is an imprint of the history of our country.
The museum appeared at the turn of two periods in the history of Russian museums, when museums were changing their status from "cultural norm" (1890-1920) to "cultural tradition". Officially, the Kovrov Regional Museum of Local History was opened on March 27, 1927, by a resolution of the District Congress of Soviets.
